Do you want to learn how to deal with crisis? Navigate the system? Support your community?

Join the 3rd Space Support Response Team!

We are looking for folks to support the Audre Lorde Project's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Two Spirit, Trans and Gender Non Conforming (LGBTSTGNC) People of Color (POC) community members who are struggling with issues of employment, education, health care and immigration status and the system. As a part of the Response Team you will: do intakes, provide one-on-one advocacy, suggest resources and referrals and support. This team is a place to give and receive sustainable support; where creation, invention and innovation will be practiced. We will draw from our resilience to support ourselves.

The first 3rd Space Response Team Training will be on Friday, March 25th from 12-6pm.

Metro cards and lunch provided! We are prioritizing LGBTSTGNC People of Color for this training.

What will I learn at the training?

  • How to de-escalate a crisis situation and support others to do the same.
  • How to provide compassionate, non-judgmental listening for all situations people are experiencing.
  • How to deal with triggers and maintain your own boundaries.
  • How to provide practical support and help people figure out their options.
  • How to provide resources and referrals.

After the Training participants agree to:

  • Support ALP's Mission, Guiding Principles and Vision Statement.
  • Commit to work with 1-3 LGBTSTGNC POC community members who are seeking support from ALP (a minimum of 3+ hours per month or as needed).
  • One check in meeting or phone call a month or as needed to support your work with community members.
  • Attend a Daring to Be Powerful Training and other ALP trainings that will help support your work.

What are the perks of becoming a part of the 3rd Space Response Team?

  • Supporting your community!
  • Getting to know NYC resources and referrals.
  • Receiving ALP communications, including Community FYIs and Announcements.
  • Access to training and development opportunities.
