Challenging Street Harassment: Community sit down and strategy cypher

PROVOCATIVE DISCUSSION

Challenging Street Harassment: Community sit down and strategy cypher

Tuesday, October 18th 7-9pm (Rescheduled from 10/12)

85 S Oxford, Brooklyn NY 11217

Have you ever experienced violence due to your sexual identity or gender presentation on the street? Late at night? In the middle of the day? In your hood?

Have you ever witnessed hate violence, name calling, or harassment and not known what to do about it as a straight or white ally?

Tuesdays discussion will focus on the different ways Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Two Spirit, Trans, and Gender Non Conforming people of color experience street harassment in central Brooklyn and what our community and allies can do to prevent this violence from happening without relying on the police. We’ll be talking about the work SOS does to challenge  hate violence in Bed-Stuy and then open it up to folks to share what strategies have worked or haven’t worked for them. Come on out and share your experiences, strategies, and voice.

As always, Volunteer night is an opportunity for those who are new to our work to learn more. Open to Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Two Spirit, Trans, and Gender Non Conforming people of color and allies

Free Food, Metro cards, and community!

About the S.O.S. Collective: The Safe OUTside the System (SOS) Collective is an anti-violence program led by and for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Two Spirit, Trans, and Gender Non Conforming (LGBTSTGNC) people of color. We are devoted to challenging hate and police violence by using community based strategies rather than relying on the police. SOS is a project of the Audre Lorde Project.
