Join Our Board of Directors!

The Audre Lorde Project is currently seeking to expand its Board of Directors to support organizational oversight and fiscal management/fundraising. ALP Board members play a crucial role in supporting the organization’s vision and mission, ensuring accountability to ALP’s membership, and bolstering the organization’s financial sustainability.  While operating within nonprofit governance best practices, the ALP Board also is deeply committed to a different way of being than traditional nonprofit boards, highlighted by shared decision making and distributed leadership. New Board members will engage in a thoughtful and comprehensive onboarding process over the course of the first three months – with a focus on relationship building and deep learning about the organization’s history, membership and current activities.

The ALP Board of Directors is currently a working board that meets every month, though this can change based on the needs of the Board and overall organization. In addition to participating in regular Board meetings, all members of the Board are expected to:

  • Be willing to raise funds for the organization (examples: grassroots fundraising, foundation / corporate giving)
  • Stay engaged and knowledgeable about the organization's activities and overall health
  • Participate in Executive Leadership-level Hiring, Finance and Fundraising Committees as needed
  • Participate in one Board-facilitated town hall meeting per year
  • Serve on the Board for at least one three-year term.

Our Board of Directors

Our board members represent the diversity of ALP’s community members and organizing interests, including a diverse range of people of color communities; trans and cis women, men, and gender non-conforming people; people who are living with HIV/AIDS; people with disabilities; and various age, class and educational backgrounds. While ALP is a New York City based organization, we also will welcome applications from folks based anywhere in the US, regardless of citizenship status.

To build our capacity, we are looking for individuals with a broad range of skills and experience that can uplift ALP’s mission. Areas of particular interest are: finance; fundraising and resource development; legal experience; and real estate knowledge.

Applications are on a rolling deadline.
