This two-day training introduces participants to the practice of community interpretation for social justice and language justice in movement spaces. Participants will explore how language access impacts participation, leadership, and power in our communities, and develop foundational skills to support multilingual organizing.

Participants will learn about the principles of language justice and practice interpretation techniques commonly used in grassroots settings. The training will also explore the role of interpreters in organizing spaces and how interpretation can help create more inclusive and participatory meetings, events, and political education spaces.

The training is participatory and experiential. Participants will engage in discussion, skill-building exercises, and interpretation practice in small groups.

This training is designed for people who:

  • are bilingual or multilingual

  • are connected to community organizations, grassroots groups, or movement spaces

  • want to support multilingual participation and leadership in their communities

No formal interpretation experience is required, but participants should feel comfortable communicating in at least two languages.
