"Out In the Night" Screening at BMCC, moderated by Safe OUTside the System

Out in the Night, directed by blair dorosh-walther, is a documentary about four young African American lesbians convicted for defending themselves in an assault in Greenwich Village in 2006. This film premiered in 2014, has won close to a dozen awards, and opened up the 28th season of POV on PBS this summer.

This event will include a post-screening dialogue between the audience, and three of the film’s subjects, Terrain Dandridge, Patreese Johnson and Renata Hill. Members of the Audre Lorde Project’s Safe Outside the System (SOS) program will moderate the discussion

Interpreter Training

 

ALP’s Annual Interpreter Training is a part of a larger vision of Language Justice in Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Two Spirit, Trans and Gender Non-Conforming (LGBTSTGNC) Immigrant of Color communities.  This Interpreter Training seeks to provide opportunities for LGBTSTGNC Immigrants of Color who are already informal community interpreters to:  

 

  • gain greater skills in interpretation.
  • learn resources and strategies to use interpretation to generate income.
  • better understand how to make our community spaces more accessible.
  • share knowledge about health, social and community resources.
  • share resources on translating health, sexuality and gender issues.

Daring to be Powerful!

Daring to Be Powerful is one of New York City's largest People of Color centered community organizing workshops.  The Audre Lorde Project aims to build both individual and collective power to better challenge the multiple oppressions faced by Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Two-Spirit, Transgender and Gender Non-Conforming People of Color communities.  DTBP is our signature organizing institute for building skills, analysis of oppression & power, learning about current issues and campaigns to get involved with, and offering opportunities for strategizing and community organizing.

El Proyecto de Audre Lorde es un Centro de Organización Comunitaria sirviendo a personas de color  que identifican como Lesbianas, Gays, Bisexuales, personas Dos espíritus, Transgénero y no conformes a base de Género en el área de New York. A través de la movilización, educación y la capacidad para construir, trabajamos por el bienestar de la comunidad, el progreso social y la justicia económica. Estamos comprometidos a luchar contra las diferencias, responsablemente reflejamos, representamos y servimos a nuestra comunidad.

 

ACERCA DE LA CAPACITACIÓN PARA ORGANIZAR A LA COMUNIDAD

El Proyecto de Audre Lorde tiene como objetivo construir el poder individual y colectivo para desafiar de mejor manera la opresión que sufre la Comunidad de Color LGBTSTGNC. Esta capacitación por lo tanto permite el desarrollo de habilidades, análisis de la opresión, poder y actualidad y ofrece oportunidades de estrategias e inversiones en la organización de la comunidad.

  • La capacitación esta específicamente diseñada para la Gente de Color LGBTSTGNC
  • Los participantes deberán atender un día de la capacitación de 1:00pm a 8:00pm
  • Un informativo de recursos será distribuido como parte del material de la capacitación
  • Se servirá almuerzo y refrescos ligeros
  • La capacitación no tiene costo
