After much visioning, input from our community and work the Audre Lorde Project (ALP) is proud to announce the launch of its newest program, 3rd Space Support.  The 3rd Space Support program seeks to work with Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Two-Spirit, Trans and Gender Non-Conforming People of Color (LGBTSTGNC POC) who struggle with issues around employment, education, health care and immigration status. It is a place to give and receive sustainable support; where creation, invention and innovation will be practiced.  We will draw from our resilience to support ourselves.

Within this 3rd Space we hold on to the idea that LGBTSTGNC POC communities have always found ways to support each other and survive outside of systems.  The 3rd Space Support program hopes to encourage and create space for these organic methods of community support and community building around employment, education, health care and immigration status to continue.

At the same time, ALP acknowledges that LGBTSTGNC POC community members also engage within systems to find support and get their needs met.  Therefore, ALP will also engage with these systems to provide advocacy, resources and referrals for community members around the issues, employment, education, health care and immigration status.

As this first year of 3rd Space Support unfolds, we encourage you to get involved.   We encourage you to attend and suggest 3rd Space programming.  We encourage you to take care of yourselves and each other.

The 3rd Space Support program is excited to launch its first events!

The legal clinic focuses on assisting those in need of name changes, gender changes on identity documents, obtaining shelter services and/or benefits such as HASA, Medicaid, Public Assistance, and Welfare.  Legal clinics will also assist with adjusting immigration statuses, landlord/tenant disputes, and those who have experienced discrimination because of gender identity or perceived gender identity.  People will be seen on a first come, first serve basis.  Spanish interpretation is provided!

An Interpreter Training for LGBTSTGNC Immigrants of Color!

The Interpreter Training Project seeks to provide opportunities for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Two Spirit, Trans and Gender Non-Conforming immigrants of color who are already informal community interpreters to:

o   gain greater skills in interpretation

o   learn resources and strategies to use interpretation to generate income

o   better understand how to make our community spaces more accessible

You must fill out an application at www.alp.org/interpeter to be considered for the training.  There are a limited number of $100 stipends available.
