TransJustice Community School is an intensive program that aims to strengthen our community and ourselves in building our skills for organizing. We will channel the knowledge we bring through our lived experiences and collective histories to connect with each other and build power.

TransJustice is a political group created by and for Trans and Gender Non-Conforming People of Color that works to mobilize its communities and allies into action on the pressing political issues we face. TransJustice Community School is for People of Color who identify as Trans and Gender Non-Conforming - including people who identify as gender variant, gender deviant, butch lesbians, drag queens, bi-gendered, Two-Spirit, drag kings, femme queens, A.G., genderqueer, agender, andro, gender-benders, etc.

TransJustice Community School will focus on community organizing skill-building. While forming unique bonds with other TGNC organizers of color local to New York City, TJCS participants will complete 25 hours of curriculum. Topics covered will include:

  • What is community organizing?
  • Legacies of transgender and gender nonconforming community leadership of color in New York City
  • The connection between storytelling and organizing
  • Ways to use stories to build power

This cycle of TransJustice Community School will occur Monday and Wednesday evenings at 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM for a total 10 (TEN) sessions across 5 weeks. TJCS will meet online using Zoom primarily (2-3 scheduled sessions will occur in-person within New York City). We ask that participants commit to attend for the entirety of the program.

This is a paid (stipend) opportunity; in addition, participants will receive meal vouchers and roundtrip MetroCards (where applicable) for each session attended.
