Calling our Trans* and Gender Non-Conforming Warriors of Color!

TransJustice Community School is an intensive program that aims to strengthen our community and ourselves in building our skills through generating the knowledge we bring in our lived experiences and history of our lives.

TransJustice Community School is for People of Color who identify as Trans and Gender Non-Conforming - for example, people who identify as trans, gender non-conforming, gender variant, gender deviant, butch lesbians, drag queens, bi-gendered, Two-Spirit, drag kings, femme queens, A.G., genderqueer, agender, andro, gender-benders, etc.

TransJustice mobilizes its communities and allies into action on the pressing political issues they face, including gaining access to jobs, housing, education; healthcare, HIV-related services, and job-training programs; and resisting police, government and anti-immigrant violence.

TJ Community School will focus on group facilitation and grassroots community organizing skill-building. Some things we’ll cover are:

  • Best practices for group facilitation (meetings, cooperative long-term goals, etc).

  • Strategies to effectively build our base of supporters to advocate for social and policy change within and for our communities.

  • Historical legacies of transgender and gender nonconforming people of color-led community organizing in New York City.

  • Political landscape of New York City and State.

  • Tools to center our collective wellness, safety and self-determination in the struggle for liberation.

This cycle of TransJustice Community School will occur on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM for a total of 5 weeks. We ask that participants commit to attend for the entirety of the program, including Tuesday, March 21 and Thursday, March 23; Tuesday, March 28 and Thursday, March 30; Tuesday, April 4 and Thursday, April 6; Tuesday, April 11 and Thursday, April 13; Tuesday, April 18 and Thursday, April 20. This is a paid (stipend) opportunity; in addition, participants will receive meal vouchers and MetroCards.
