Are you a member at ALP interested in political education? Are there topics that queer & trans people of color could use a safer space to discuss and learn collaboratively about? Do you want to grow your skills in program development and facilitation?

If this speaks to you, the Political Education fellowship at ALP is for you! This is a paid, seven-week opportunity for one member to co-design and execute a virtual political education event with the support of the membership coordinator & larger ALP community. The fellow will select the subject matter for their independent study and the cypher based on their own interests and experiences. Interested but not sure about what topic you'd want to work on? The application lists a few options based on members' interest in the past: police & prison abolition, political theories with a focus on communities of color (Black Marxism, critical race theory, etc), the racist/colonial history of gender binary, and healing justice.

The fellowship will run from April 18 - June 10, with a time commitment of 5 hours/week throughout paid out at a rate of $25/hour. The cypher itself will be held on Tuesday, June 7th at 6:30 PM EST (but there is room for flexibility if needed).

Responsibilities of the fellowship include:

  • Conducting independent research on chosen topic
  • Conceptualize and co-design a 1-1.5 hour virtual presentation on chosen area
  • Liasing with communications coordinator for promotion of event
  • Facilitating/co-facilitating cypher with support of staff and/or member(s)
  • Weekly supervision with membership coordinator
  • Final fellowship evaluation meeting with membership coordinator

Qualifications:

  • Passionate about political education for and by queer and/or trans people of color
  • Available April 18 - June 10 for 5 hours/week (hours flexible)
  • Detail-oriented and accountable
  • Aligned with ALP's mission and values
  • Must be an ALP member

The application closes April 17 at 11:59 PM. Please email membership coordinator Anqa Khan at anqa@alp.org with any questions or feedback!
