Want to level-up your fundraising skills and help financially sustain queer and trans people of color organizing for justice, safety, and liberation? Join our Resource Organizing Committee!

You’ll learn the basics of grassroots fundraising and play an active role in helping the Audre Lorde Project develop a fundraising program that is rooted in an anti-capitalist politic and informed by a nuanced understanding of how economic injustice uniquely harms queer and trans people of color in this country. No previous fundraising experience needed!

What do you mean by “Resource Organizing”?

We use the term “resource organizing” to underscore the fact that money isn’t the only resource that we need to power our movements, and to honor the many non-monetary things that our community gifts us each and every day. This is a term and framework that we learned from FIERCE, an organization for LGBTQ youth of color in New York City that used to be housed in the same building as ALP a few years back. Shout out to FIERCE!

Who can join the Resource Organizing Committee?

We’re looking for ALP members – lesbian, gay, bisexual, two spirit, trans, and gender non-conforming people of color based in New York City – who can commit to 1 remote monthly meeting on the first Thursday of each month. Doesn’t matter if you became an ALP member a week ago or a decade ago. New and old members alike are welcome!

What is the time commitment?

Please expect to set aside a total of 2-5 hours per month, including a 2 hour monthly remote meeting (with breaks!) on the first Thursday of each month.

Monthly meetings will take place via Zoom and be formatted as a combination of skill-sharing and discussion around a variety of fundraising topics, including: making a fundraising pitch, organizing a donor phone banking event, writing fundraising emails, putting together a fundraising campaign, and other topics of interest identified by committee members. We’re hoping that folks can apply these new skills to support ALP’s fundraising campaigns.

All meetings will include multiple breaks and auto-captioning provided by Rev. We commit to working with individual committee members to ensure that folks get the accessibility supports they need to participate.

Is there a stipend available for committee members?

This is an unpaid position. However, committee members may have the opportunity to be paid facilitators for an ALP fundraising training planned for Spring 2022.

As is typical for all ALP events, we’ll provide folks with a small meal stipend (Seamless gift card) at each committee meeting. We’ve also set aside a small pool of funds that committee members can access to support their participation, including things like purchasing fundraising-related books, attending trainings, and to cover the cost of any other things committee members need.

How do I sign up?

Please complete the brief interest form below and plan to attend the first meeting on Thursday, September 2nd, 6:30-8:30 pm ET! Once you complete the form, we’ll send you the Zoom link. Send any questions to Danya AbdelHameid, ALP’s Grassroots Fundraising Coordinator, danya@alp.org.
