ALP is hiring 5 Outreach Organizers and 1 Data Entry Associate for our fall 2021 campaign drive in support of ALP’s Brick by Brick Campaign, which works to ensure and increase access to safe, affordable, long term housing for all Trans and Gender Conforming People of Color in New York City. From September to November 2021, we will be conducting a base-building drive and are looking for people who can work with us to do outreach all over the city.

Mission: 

The Audre Lorde Project (ALP) is a Lesbian Gay Bisexual Two Spirit Transgender and Gender Non-Conforming (LGBTSTGNC) People of Color (POC) center for community organizing, focusing on the New York City area. Our member-led programming aims to gather our community and offer space for support, one for another, at the same time that we organize and mobilize for a reality of our own design.

 

Responsibilities: 

During fall 2021, our ALP family (volunteers, members, and paid staff) will perform intensive outreach to the New York City constituents who have filled out our Brick by Brick pledge card as a collective effort to (a) build a base of folks to support the Brick by Brick campaign, (b) educate our neighbors about the housing needs of TGNC POC New Yorkers, and (c) apply pressure on incoming City Council representatives to prioritize housing support for TGNC POC New Yorkers. 

We are looking for folks to fill the following temporary positions:

 

Lead Canvasser | This position reports to the Member Engagement Coordinator.

The Lead Canvasser will:

  • Supervise canvassers and phone bankers, including training, technical support, and coordination of a weekly canvasser team meeting 

  • Coordinate and conduct phone banking

  • Coordinate and properly record all data from canvassing, phone banking, and other outreach

  • Collaborate with  the Member Engagement Coordinator to determine canvasser action items

This is a temporary position for up to 8-12 hrs a week from September 27 - November 8. While the  majority of phonebanking sessions will occur on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays, flexible availability  - including evening and weekends - is a must

 

Canvasser (4 positions open) | This position reports to the Lead Canvasser.

Canvassers will:

  • Phone bank to provide political education and recruit supporters

  • Support volunteers with canvassing and phone banking, including technical support

  • Diligently record all information from canvassing, phone banking, and other actions

  • Complete summary of each canvassing session to be shared with the Lead Canvasser

This is a temporary position for up to 8-12 hrs a week from September 27 - November 8. The majority of phonebanking sessions will occur on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Fridays, but flexible hours - including evening and weekends - are a must. 

 

Data Entry Associate | This position reports to the Member Engagement Coordinator.

The Data Entry Associate will:

  • Collect and organize pledge cards and volunteer information from canvassing and phone banking

  • Meticulously enter all data into Excel database

  • Train and monitor volunteers supporting with data entry

  • Upload Excel database into CiviCRM Database

This is a temporary position for up to 8-12 hrs a week from September 27 - November 8. Flexible hours - including evening and weekends - are a must. 

 

 

Required Qualifications: 

Lead Canvasser Qualifications:

  • Understanding of and commitment to ALP’s organizational mission and guiding principles

  • Working knowledge of issues facing TGNC POC, LGBTSTGNC, and POC communities

  • Experience working with multi-racial, multi-ethnic, multi-gendered, and intergenerational communities

  • Ability to work with communities of varying abilities and commitment to maintaining accessibility across all program areas

  • Outreach, canvassing, and phone banking experience

  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills

 

Canvasser Qualifications:

  • Understanding of and commitment to ALP’s organizational mission and guiding principles

  • Working knowledge of issues facing TGNC POC, LGBTSTGNC, and POC communities

  • Experience working with multi-racial, multi-ethnic, multi-gendered, and intergenerational communities

  • Ability to work with communities of varying abilities and commitment to maintaining accessibility across all program areas

  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills

 

Data Entry Associate Qualifications:

  • Understanding of and commitment to ALP’s organizational mission and guiding principles

  • Working knowledge of issues facing TGNC POC, LGBTSTGNC, and POC communities

  • Experience working with multi-racial, multi-ethnic, multi-gendered, and intergenerational communities

  • Excellent understanding of Excel and experience entering data and working with data sets

 

Preferred Qualifications: 

Bilingual & multilingual community members are strongly encouraged to apply!

 

Compensation: 

Lead Canvasser ($16/hr)

Canvasser (4 positions open) ($15/hr) 

Data Entry Associate ($15/hr)
