TransJustice presents: Healthy and Healing Relationships

When: Wednesday, February 13, 2013 from 6:30pm - 9:00pm
Where:  Audre Lorde Project- 147 W. 24th Street, 3rd Floor

In this workshop, we are going to look at how we can communicate with our partners and friends in ways that promote solidarity, understanding, and healing.

Why Are We Here Today?

We at TransJustice recognize the impacts of sexual, domestic, and intimate partner violence, and the overwhelming reality that our trans/gender non-conforming people of color   communities make up a disproportionate number of both survivors and victims of these violences. We also recognize that our stories are often excluded from large scale gender based movements, such as V-Day. In order to challenge the exclusion of our voices and stories, TransJustice is rising up to represent and lift up the voices, experiences, and realities of our tgnc of color community members and provide tools to change and challenge violence in our day to day lives.

As people who are invested in social change, we are challenged with the daunting task of living our politics day to day. How do we begin unpacking the ways oppression impact our relationships with each other? How do we communicate in ways that work to heal and build trust with the people we care about? How do we negotiate in our relationships in ways that feel good?

In this workshop, we are going to look at how we can communicate with our partners and friends in ways that promote solidarity, understanding, and healing as well as break cycles of violence.
