ALP Announces New Executive Director
ALP Announces New Executive Director
Dear Community Members and Supporters,
The members, staff and board of the Audre Lorde Project (ALP) are incredibly excited to announce that as of August 1, 2012 Cara Page will be ALP’s newest Executive Director. Since Spring 2011 when Kris Hayashi and Collette Carter announced their transition, the whole organization dedicated itself to continuing to create high quality programming and organizing in Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Two Spirit, Trans and Gender Non Conforming (LGBTSTGNC) communities of color and to taking the necessary time to find a passionate and experienced Executive Director to support ALP’s next stage of growth.
Cara Page, with her long history of incubating collective vision and effective strategy from the ground up, represents the kind of leadership ALP was looking for. Born in Philadelphia and raised amongst generations of Black and Queer cultural workers and organizers, she has lived and supported movement building in the Southeast for the last 17 years. Her work includes ongoing membership and founding of the Kindred Collective (a network of southern grassroots healers and health practitioners who seek to intervene, and transform generational trauma and violence in the South), and active participation in Southerners on New Ground, Project South and INCITE! Women of Color Against Violence. ALP looks forward to the ways in which her wisdom, passion and experience can contribute to the deepening, sustainability and expansion of its work.
This is a moment of historic opportunity in ALP as it continues its legacy of building power, developing leadership, and supporting wellness in LGBTSTGNC communities of color. Your support and participation in ALP has, and will continue, to help the organization carry on in Audre Lorde’s name. Outgoing Co-Directors Collette Carter and Kris Hayashi will remain with the organization through the summer to support the transition as ALP completes our Director of Finance and Development (DFD) search. Please help us to find a DFD by considering applying. For more information please contact hiring
